Pre-rolls 4 Justice is a national Equal Employment Opportunity initiative advocating for the employment and advancement of individuals formerly incarcerated for cannabis convictions.
P4J is committed to combating inequity in the cannabis industry, raising awareness and providing opportunities to marginalized individuals/communities negatively impacted by the United States of America's "War on Drugs".
Before cannabis was legalized for medical use in California in 1996 and recreational use in 2016, people of color in low income communities were very familiar with the product and the culture surrounding it. Whether it was occasional use, everyday consumption or a means to make ends meet, cannabis was synonymous with our community. Under the presidencies of Nixon, Reagan and Bush (Sr.) there was a major push to criminalize the possession of marijuana and to issue much stiffer penalties to African-Americans in particular. Many families, individuals and communities were severely impacted by these biased policies. Many of those affects can still be felt today.
"Cannabis sales are on pace to hit $26 billion in 2021. Two-thirds of US states have legalized cannabis for recreational use, according to the National Conference of State Legislature. It's estimated that there were 321,000 full-time jobs in the cannabis industry in 2020, up from 234,700 the year before, according to a report released earlier this year from Leafly and Whitney Economics. The industry has grown less diverse over the last couple of years; and programs to address aspects, such as social equity or repairing the harms from the War on Drugs are still in their fledgling phase." (CNN 2021)
The global Marijuana Market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 26.7% from 2021 to 2028 to reach $70.6 billion by 2028.
Pre-rolls 4 Justices aims to create space for people of color in cannabis. We are an Equal Employment Opportunity initiative. We focus on job placement, advancement to management positions, ensuring competitive compensation and facilitating ownership. We are committed to fostering a sense of belonging for people of color in the cannabis industry.
